America’s Tapestry
We’re thrilled to share that Glenshaw Public Library will be hosting a local chapter of America’s Tapestry throughout the next year. America’s Tapestry is an embroidery project that will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States on July 4, 2026. Each hand-stitched panel in the final exhibition will highlight lesser-known people and events from the Revolutionary era across the original 13 colonies. Artists guilds across the country are working hard to complete each piece in time!
The Pennsylvania panel, designed by Philadelphia-based illustrator Maggie Weng, features flagmaker Rebecca Young, Westmoreland County’s historic “Don’t Tread On Me” flag, Old Hannastown, and Independence Hall.
Local embroiderers led by state co-directors Mary Van Tyne and Raven Fagelson are gathering at the library weekly to bring the panel to life. Community members, especially young stitchers, are welcome to participate and learn. The library will also be open to the public on several upcoming Thursdays to view the panel’s progress … stay tuned for dates!
